Arne Bystrom's many original designs and renovations have received over 30 architectural design awards, including two American Institute of Architects National Honor Awards, a PA Design Award, and a HUD National Design Award; no other Northwest architect has received more national and international acclaim for design excellence and quality of work. His two National AIA Honor Awards, one for a small cabin on the Washington coast, the other for an extended-family home in Sun Valley, Idaho; though quite different in function and scale, are both examples of the detailed wood structuralism that mark his unique brand of Northwest architecture. Both are also studies in the environmental sensitivity and passive/active solar design that further define his distinctive style.
National Awards: Arne Bystrom has received more national and international acclaim for design excellence and quality of work than any other Northwest architect. This recognition is reflected in the following awards:

American Institute of Architects and Sunset - Western Home Awards After more than 30 years of private practice, Arne was honored by the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Architects with the highest award possible at the local level: the AIA Seattle Gold Medal for lifetime achievment. This is an award that Arne greatly appreciated, but continues to feel was bestowed upon him too early in his career.
